Rigetti Computing deals with the manufacturing of quantum computers, which is a relatively new field. The company was formed in Berkeley, California in 2013 by X IBM researcher Chad Rigetti. They are known for constructing superconducting qubit quantum processors.

Aside from creating the hardware, the company also develops software such as Forest, containing Quil (Quantum Instruction Language), which allows programmers to create code for Rigetti's quantum processors. Developers and researchers can run quantum programs on Rigetti's hardware via the cloud, mitigating the need for physical resources.

The company has an edge over other firms with its in-house designed quantum chips. The emphasis is put on creating scalable systems--quantum computers that expand in power and size over time. Other frontrunners in the field include IBM, Google and IonQ.
