Sr. Optomechanical Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Optomechanical Engineer. Location: Bothell, WA, United States

Responsibilities:

• Design, model, and assemble optomechanical components and systems for trapped-ion quantum computers.
• Conduct structural, thermal, material, and tolerance analyses.
• Collaborate in-lab with interdisciplinary teams of engineers and physicists.
• Communicate clearly regarding optomechanical design decisions and architectural concerns.
• Develop designs from concept through prototyping, validation, and release for manufacturing.
• Maintain Solidworks CAD models and manage product data using PDM.
• Generate BOMs and oversee ECO processes.
• Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and fabrication partners.

Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years in optomechanical design, particularly optical mounts and systems.
• Experience with structural, thermal, vibration, and optical FEA tools;
• Skilled in Solidworks and PDM systems;
• Knowledge of optical component mounting and lab-scale prototyping.
• Familiarity with GD&T and optical materials/coatings.
• Strong communication and team collaboration abilities.

Preferred:

• 7+ years transforming designs from concept to manufacturable systems.
• Experience working with lasers, fiber optics, and optics testbeds;
• Experience with ANSYS or equivalent FEA software;
• Familiarity with precision optical alignment systems, ion traps, UHV systems, and cryogenics.
• Hands-on optical system alignment and experimental setups.
