Job Description
Job Location: College Park, Maryland, United States (with occasional travel to Bothell, WA)
Responsibilities:
- Lead the roadmap and execution for the development and production of surface ion traps and packaging solutions for IonQ’s quantum computers.
- Collaborate with product and architecture teams to ensure seamless design and system integration of ion traps.
- Manage device demand and oversee custom device development with U.S. and international foundries;
- Develop novel characterization techniques and manage the verification and validation of designs, materials, and processes.
- Oversee the production of opto-electronic packages in a cleanroom, including quality control, device characterization, inventory management, and performance verification.
- Work with manufacturing teams to streamline trap and packaging solutions, improving assembly and commissioning times.
- Provide leadership in identifying methods to enhance the repeatability and reliability of manufacturing processes;
- Assist with transitioning from R&D to production, ensuring efficient technology demonstrations and faster learning cycles.
- Provide coaching and development to team members, promoting skill proficiency and performance.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or higher in Engineering or related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in managing R&D, new product introduction (NPI), or low-volume manufacturing teams.
- 5+ years in process development, specifically for novel electronics or device packaging, ideally in cleanroom settings.
- Expertise in ion trap design, fabrication, and qualification;
- Proficient in cleanroom procedures and microfabrication, particularly in RF device manufacturing;
- Strong leadership and project management experience with cross-functional team collaboration.
- Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, Python, and Jira for project management and data analysis.

- Competitive salary range: $187,358 - $245,300, based on experience and location.
