R&D Manager, Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: R&D Manager – Commercial Quantum Computing. Location: Golden Valley, MN

Responsibilities:

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of AMO physicists, engineers, and technicians in building and testing commercial quantum computing systems.
• Collaborate with the Hardware-as-a-Service team to support on-premises quantum system deployment.
• Oversee the conceptual design, assembly, and validation of quantum hardware and subsystems;
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to team members across quantum computing and AMO physics domains.
• Participate in strategic planning for staff recruitment, training, and development to meet project milestones;
• Manage program performance with regard to technical quality, timelines, cost targets, and risk mitigation;
• Support career growth and technical training of direct reports while planning long-term development goals.
• Contribute to IP development and strategic planning for the quantum hardware technology portfolio.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of post-graduate experience in AMO physics or quantum computing system development.
• Demonstrated experience managing technical staff and leading high-performance engineering teams;
• In-depth knowledge of AMO systems and quantum computing hardware;
• Strong leadership, communication, and task management skills;
• Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status).
• Cannot be a national of the People's Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen (due to national security requirements).
