Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist – Frequency Control Systems. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States. Employment Type: Full-time | Onsite. Travel: Up to 20%

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of engineers focused on frequency control for IBM Quantum deployment hardware.
• Develop and implement machine learning and AI techniques to generate optimal frequency plans for multi-qubit quantum processors.
• Define architecture-aware yield metrics and analyze performance based on team feedback;
• Design and write source code for instrument control and full-stack automation;
• Manage large data sets with integrated experimental workflows using SQL databases and custom data visualization tools.
• Contribute to IBM’s intellectual property portfolio through patents;
• Represent IBM at conferences, workshops, and professional societies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field
• Experience in software development, including programming languages such as Python or Rust
• Working knowledge of SQL databases;
• Background in AI/ML models and optimization frameworks (e.g., CPLEX)

Preferred:

• Doctorate in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a closely related field
• 5+ years of experience in programming and software development;
• Familiarity with quantum computing concepts or materials physics
