Job Description

Job Title: Applied Science Research Lab Manager. Location: Westford, Massachusetts, USA

Responsibilities:

• Lead a technical team in planning, building, and provisioning cutting-edge supercomputing clusters in a high-impact research lab.
• Collaborate with research, engineering, and architecture teams to design and test advanced computational solutions.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the applied research lab, including infrastructure management, troubleshooting, and user support.
• Manage key relationships with external technology partners to stay ahead of the innovation curve;
• Recruit, mentor, and grow the team to meet evolving research and development needs;
• Influence both internal and partner technology roadmaps through innovation and lab-driven experimentation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• At least 10 years of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years in managerial roles;
• Proven ability to manage complex research infrastructure including power, cooling, and high-performance hardware/software stacks.
• Strong technical background in operating systems, networks, and distributed computing tools such as Slurm and Kubernetes.
• Experience managing GPU-accelerated computing environments and familiarity with CUDA;
• Understanding of hardware and software challenges in early-stage or pre-production systems.
• Excellent project management and multitasking skills in fast-paced research settings.

Preferred:

• Exposure to HPC and AI infrastructure technologies including CPUs, GPUs, and high-speed interconnects.
• Prior experience supporting quantum technologies in datacenter environments.

• Competitive salary range: $248,000–$442,750, based on experience and location.
