Job Description

Job Title: Hardware Engineer, Surface Science. Job Location: Goleta, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute strategies and detailed characterization techniques for thin films, surface defects, surface/interface chemistry, and material structures.
• Design and conduct experiments using instruments such as AFM, AFM-IR, SIMS (D-SIMS and TOF-SIMS), TDS, XPS, SEM/EDX, and analyze the data collected.
• Develop experiments for surface treatment and analysis processes aimed at reducing surface contamination and defects;
• Collaborate with device and fabrication teams to correlate analysis results with device performance, fabrication procedures, and jointly develop strategies to improve device performance.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, spectroscopy, or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in research and development with material process and analysis in semiconductor fabrication, preferably in a clean room environment.
• Experience with surface treatment and analysis using a variety of sources and techniques;
• Hands-on experience with vacuum and ultra-high-vacuum equipment.

Preferred:

• PhD in materials science, physical chemistry, physics, spectroscopy, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience in research and development or production environments with skills in surface treatment and analysis in semiconductor fabrication;
• Advanced experience with vacuum and ultra-high-vacuum equipment for etching, cleaning, treatment, and analyzing surface/interface chemistry and structures.
• Familiarity with data analysis software, process control, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) writing.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Benefits/ Instructions:

• The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000 - $216,000, plus bonus and equity.
