Job Description
Job Title: Photonics Fabrication Process Engineer. Location: Remote (United States)
Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize fabrication processes for integrated photonic devices using crystalline electro-optic materials such as thin film lithium niobate.
- Independently manage wafer lot processing through coordination with foundry partners;
- Design and execute experiments for process improvement and optimization;
- Perform metrology and failure analysis to troubleshoot and improve fabrication yield and performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners including design and integration engineers;
- Stay current with developments in photonics fabrication and apply new innovations quickly.
- Travel occasionally (up to 20%) to partner sites and facilities.
Qualifications:
- PhD in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in semiconductor or integrated photonics fabrication.
- Expertise in etching waveguides in lithium niobate or similar materials;
- Proficiency in metrology and analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, AFM, ellipsometry, and others.
- Knowledge of photonic components like modulators, waveguides, switches, resonators, etc.
- Strong programming and data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, JMP);
- Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- 5+ years of experience in integrated photonics fabrication using electro-optic materials.
- Proven results in reducing optical loss in photonic components;
- Familiarity with the full hardware development cycle and working in a fabless environment.
- Experience managing external partners or vendors, especially semiconductor/phtonics foundries.
- Background in photonic quantum computing hardware development.
- Proficiency in Mandarin.
