Process Integration Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Process Integration Engineer. Location: Remote (United States) | Preferred: Albany, NY

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement process integration flows for photonic quantum computing hardware, ensuring they meet high-performance specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to refine fabrication techniques for ultra-low loss quantum photonic chips.
  • Partner with foundries to continuously optimize integration schemes while balancing competing requirements;
  • Design and execute metrology and failure analysis strategies to understand and address process challenges.
  • Deliver fully integrated quantum photonic circuits with multiple passive and active components;
  • Coordinate across internal component teams to ensure technical alignment and hardware quality.
  • Drive innovation in photonic process development, especially for ultra-low loss fabrication.
  • Stay current with advancements in photonics fabrication and integration technologies.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Photonics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in photonic and/or semiconductor chip fabrication.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing process integration schemes.
  • Hands-on expertise with fabrication processes such as lithography, deposition, etching, CMP, and metrology tools like SEM, TEM, AFM, etc.
  • Familiarity with photonic components like waveguides, beamsplitters, resonators, and interferometers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset;
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred:

  • 8+ years in photonics chip fabrication, including process integration.
  • Prior work in a foundry environment, preferably with Albany Nanotech or SiView MES.
  • Experience across the product lifecycle from R&D to volume manufacturing;
  • Background in ultra-low loss photonic components and managing external vendors/foundries.
  • Knowledge of photonic quantum computing hardware;
  • Experience with advanced patterning/etching and photomask development.
